Method 1: Lace Pattern Embossing Folder

The first technique we will cover is using a plastic embossing folder with a lace pattern. You can find a variety of these folders online, such as the ones available on Amazon or AliExpress.

To begin, dust some corn starch onto the clay to prevent it from sticking to the plastic. Next, place the side with deeper texture on the clay and use a rolling pin or cake smoother to push the texture onto the clay. Carefully remove the plastic to reveal the lace texture. The resulting texture can be left as is for a simple white lace look, or additional contrast can be added using Mica powder, dry pastels, or even eyeshadow. For instance, you can use a light green Mica powder with a soft brush to distribute it onto the clay. Then, use a wet wipe to swipe it on the texture slowly, revealing the lace part and leaving a shiny light green canvas.

Method 2: Lace effect by using Silicone Mold

The second technique involves using a silicone mold with a lace pattern to create the lace effect. Start by placing the mold on the clay and then put a baking sheet on top to prevent the mold from moving. Next, push the pattern onto the clay with a rolling pin. Afterward, use a wiping technique to color the background with a beautiful pale gold color. Similar results can be achieved with silver powder for a shiny effect.

Method 3: Using Lace Mold and Liquid Clay

The third technique involves using a lace mold with liquid clay. To begin, you can use Fimo translucent liquid clay or colored liquid clay. Add some Mica powder to the translucent liquid clay or use a colored liquid clay and mix them well. Then, use painting spatulas to pick up the mixture and place it into the mold. Use a blade to remove any extra clay from the top, ensuring that it is done properly to avoid a messy final result. Bake the clay according to the instructions on the liquid clay packaging. Once it has cooled down, carefully remove the lace from the mold. Finally, you can apply the lace to the flattened out polymer clay. This method can result in a beautiful lace effect

Method 4: Lace Effect by Using Nail Foils with Lace Pattern

This method involves using nail foils with lace patterns to transfer the design onto the clay. Although the ones I used were not as lacy as I had hoped, there are many lacy designs available online. To use this method, simply cut out the section of the foil that you want to transfer to the clay and place it on top of the polymer clay. Then, use a rolling pin, blade, or anything else you have around to make sure the foil is firmly stuck to the clay. Now for the crucial step: grab the tip of the foil and rip it off quickly, like a band-aid. If you do it slowly and check it bit by bit, nothing will transfer to the clay.

Method 5: Lace Effect Using Texture Mat

For this method, we’ll be using a plastic texture mat, which you can purchase from AliExpress or Amazon. I bought a set of 6 for 4 euros. To use the mat, press it into the clay using a rolling pin to transfer the texture. If the mat sticks to the clay, simply use a bit of corn starch to fix the problem. This time, I used purple Mica powder and the wiping method to create a lace effect.

Method 6: Use a decorative table Mat or any other creative thing from dollar store

Let’s get creative with this method! I found a decorative mat at a euro shop, which is similar to a dollar store in the US. These stores are great for finding interesting lace-like textures that can be used to create fascinating results. Simply place the mat on top of the clay and use a rolling pin to push the texture onto the clay. You can use this method in two ways: either use the wiping technique from the first method or use the mat like a stencil and place the mica powder on top. I chose the latter and I’m thrilled with the outcome.
